Delta Dental PPO vs. other Delta Dental plans
Delta Dental offers several types of plans. A Delta Dental PPO plan lets you see dentists in its PPO network, and many PPO policies also include some benefits for out-of-network dentists. Delta Dental also sells HMO-style plans (often called DeltaCare USA) that usually require you to choose an assigned dental office. The name on your card isn't enough to know which one you have, so check the plan type on your card or call us and we'll help you figure it out.
What PPO plans usually cover
Coverage depends on your employer or policy, but PPO plans commonly sort care into three groups:
Preventive care such as cleanings, exams and X-rays, which are often covered at the highest level
Basic care such as fillings, and in many plans root canals and extractions
Major care such as crowns, bridges, dentures and implants, which are usually covered at a lower percentage
Most plans also have an annual maximum (the most the plan will pay in a benefit year), a deductible, and sometimes waiting periods or frequency limits. Cosmetic treatments like whitening and veneers are often not covered.
How to get the most from your benefits
Use your preventive visits. Two cleanings and exams a year help catch problems while they're small and less expensive.
Ask for an estimate before treatment. We can check your benefits and give you an estimate of your share.
Watch your annual maximum. If you need several treatments, it may make sense to plan them across benefit years.
Don't wait until the end of the year. Many plans reset in January, and unused benefits don't roll over.
